HOLLY HELL! THIS FILM IS AMAZING! WATCH THIS FILM NOW!

But before you go out and spend hard earned cash or alt+tab to whatever site has replaced mega upload let me qualify that statement.

Now I know a lot of people didn't like the Clash of the Titans remake, and I know a lot of them can't hear me all the way from those pits in the woods, but I really did, and not just because it gave me lines like "DAMN THE GODS" and "RELESE THE KRAKEN" to use in normal conversation. I genuinely (and rather arrogantly I guess) think it's because people didn't watch it properly, and since Wrath of the Titans is very similar to its predecessor (the clue is in the name) I want to help people not make that mistake again. If you want a rich intriguing plot, complex characters and a stark portrayal of modern consumerist society, what the Tartarus are you doing here, if on the better hand you want to see Titans clash in epic battle then this film is for you.

Now I was one of those geeky kids that would rather read up on ancient myth than burn in the sun, so I already had a rich idea of these characters and creatures in my head going in, and I must say the film surpasses it, it is visually stunning, not AS colourful and vibrant as clash but still, it's done a pretty amazing job of giving life to these awe inspiring creatures of myth. I was disappointed that the film is allot more visual grim, gone are the bright armours of the gods, now everything is covered in dust and grit (although not Andromeda for the completely arbitrary reason that she is the female character) and all the gods weapons spark in the same fiery way when touched, this was all to make it seem 'realistic' I assume, This I remind you is a film about mythic super beings, if I wanted realism I'd clamp a screen to the front of my head, hold down a mediocre office job for forty years and die. Although take that with a pinch of salt as I don't know whether that was to do with the film or the cinema itself, apparently the film was blurry or out of focus, I didn't really notice but they gave me a free ticket, they must have been afraid that one of the ten people in the cinema would successfully sue them, they must have thought we were in America.

Anyway on to the plot, set something like 12-13 years after the first judging from Perseus's son (oh spoiler Perseus has a son) the story kicks off with the gods power having diminishing further as almost all mortals have stopped worshiping them (for those who don't know prayer and love being what powers them and their immortality). Zeus explains to Perseus that once all the gods die what they build will crumble as well, This conveniently side steps the fact that humans where made by the gods which could have led to an interesting story of mortals saving the gods, being forced into a state of co-dependency, but then Zeus says that Kronos is braking out of Tartarus and I stop giving a shit about highbrow story lines. After Perseus heroically refuses the call to intervene in godly matters (you know him being half god and everything) and an awesome attack on his home by a chimera, Perseus gets sent by Poseidon with help from Poseidon's son Agenor to find and combine what I humbly call three of the coolest weapons in myth, Zeus's thunder bolt, Poseidon's trident and hades trident, (can't help but feel that last one was a mistake) from here the film becomes something of a scavenger hunt with epic battles at pretty much every turn. It's true that hades once again takes the most short sited villain award, but this time round there is an actual understandable reason for his actions besides "GRRRRRRRRRR REVENGE!" which isn't a bad motivation in an of its self but it is a bit over used.

Another week spot I found to exploit was some of the dialog and voices, I really didn't mind the use of modern phrases, it helped the film cement its self as an action film, but some of them just rubbed me the wrong way, for instance one character tells Perseus to "Go to hell" to which Perseus replies "That's exactly where I'm going" instead of 'what's that?', and when Bill Nighy's character turns up I suddenly got flash backs to V for Vendetta.

To be honest, these are minor gripes with another wise good film; the biggest one I have is with the title. Get rid of one letter and it suddenly describes the film a whole lot better.  There is only one Titan, that's 1/12th of the potential awesomeness of the final battle, fair enough it would have been hard to characterise that many antago- oh wait they don't do that with the one they have.

While it might sound like I've gone back on my initial statement, these are the biggest problems I had and none of them are deal breakers, the film is grand and epic, has a slew of interesting new characters, monsters and places to visit, and an absolutely amazing scene at the end where Zeus and Hades telekinetically back hand pre-humans across a battle field, and for you mythology buffs if you ever wanted to see Zeus and Hades take out their daddy issues on, well, their daddy, you're in luck. And if that wasn't enough the clocks work bird makes another cameo.

If you want to see a good action adventure film where Titans Clash then defiantly give it a shot, in closing folks always remember to dam the gods! Unless of course they're Liam Neeson.

unless wariness be used, as good almost kill a man as kill a good book. Who kills a man kills a reasonable creature, God's image; but he who destroys a good book, kills reason itself, kills the image of God, as it were in the eye.Mr John Milton
